01 Sep RECOLETA CEMETERY TOUR
Due to its architectural originallity ,undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions in Buenos Aires is the Recoleta Cemetery, the artistic richness of its mausoleums and its particular conception as “city of the dead” or “city of angels”As defined by a writer. It is still an active Cemetery and somehow a status symbol. The fact that it cannot increase its surface places it among the most expensive and exclusive areas of Buenos Aires.
We propose two different routes:
I THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NATION
A tour of the most relevant events in history through the voices of those who built the Nation. From the heroes of the struggle for Independence to the most significant personalities of the XX and XXI century. Presidents, Nobel Prizes, Athletes, Significant political representations such as Eva Perón and others, adversaries in life united here forever. An essential tour for those who want to know in greater detail the history of Argentina.
Duration: 2 hs approx.
II ART AND SIMBOLS
The Cemetery that was once defined as an open-air museum, exhibits the dreams of an opulent society that wanted Buenos Aires to appear as an European capital city. The wealth of numerous mausoleums expressed in sculptures and monuments added to the iconographic variety of the symbols displayed turns the visit into a journey through the history of art as well as the sociological and historical manifestation of the country.
Duration 2 to 3 hs approx. It is combined with a walking tour of the stately architecture of “when Buenos Aires was the Paris of South America”.
Both tours can be combined into one.
